Hobbies & Pastimes-
Poetry
In his free time, Robert absolutely LOVED reading poetry. The style of word placement and verses in the poem were very entertaining to recognize while reading for him. However, Robert did not read very much fiction. He stayed in the nonfiction section of literature during his free time (Except for Ancient Greek literature, of course). Robert also read about current events and commentary on current events quite often.
Dinner Parties
Robert's career as a writer/translator was not just simply work. It was his passion and biggest hobby. “His work was his life” -Marilyn (Robert's wife). Due to that fact, him and Marilyn often had people for dinner and hosted parties a great deal with other writers to discuss their work. The parties were very extravagant, and the Fagles even had a bar in their house to cater to guest's needs. Marilyn is a wonderful cook, so the dinners were often five courses or more. The pair was extremely social throughout their adult lives.

Sports
Robert greatly enjoyed taking long walks/hikes in the woods. He loved the peace and serenity of the walk, and the ability to clear ones thoughts of worry. Robert also loved watching football and baseball. He was never a particularly sporty man, but watching games was entertaining for him. Robert and his wife sometimes even went to football games at Princeton University.
Traveling
Robert had much interest in traveling. He and his wife went to many places in England and France. They lived in Florence Italy for three months, and thought the history in Florence was very interesting. They also lived in Greece for a summer and went there several times.
“It was so nice to see places that one read about, and to see the actual place that one described in the/a book” says Marilyn (Robert's wife) while talking about Greece and Robert's translations.
