Ancient Greek Literature-

Robert translated many Ancient Greek literary works, such as the Iliad and the Odyssey. Here is a brief description of Ancient Greek literature, it's characteristics, and more about the original author of some of the most famous Ancient Greek stories.

Homer-

Homer is the author of two of the most famous Ancient Greek literary works; The Odyssey and The Iliad. The Odyssey is a book about a man named Odysseus and his long and perilous journey home after the fall of Troy. The Iliad is a book set near the end of the Trojan War, and it depicts the fights & disagreements between King Agamemnon and Achilles, a fierce warrior. The books were thought to be composed in the late eighth or early seventh century BC, but historians are not completely certain. Historians are also not sure if Homer is the name of one author, or a composition of many author's works. Much information is yet to be discovered on Homer and his work, but one thing is for sure. The Iliad and the Odyssey have shaped Ancient Greek influence and culture greatly, and considered some of the best literary works of all time by many.

Greek Style of Literature-

Ancient Greek literature was very unique and sophisticated for it's time period. It is well known for it's very creative and bold writing style. Dramas and plays were often performed at festivals with extreme emotion and competition between actors for the audiences favor. Plays even made fun of current political events in a comical manner, just as we do now.

Tragedy is a form of drama that was commonly used in Ancient Greek literature. In these 'tragedies,' the main character would possess a fatal flaw which would result in them being punished (usually by the gods). This style of writing was extremely popular and is evident in both the Odyssey and the Iliad.
